We have completed a security installation for Farmfix, covering the yard, the store, the fuel point and the site gate, with long-range PTZ cameras and perimeter beams built for a rural site.
The brief
Agricultural sites have a set of problems that town installations do not: long sightlines, a yard that never fully closes, diesel that disappears in small quantities, and power that is not guaranteed. The brief was to cover open ground properly and to raise an alert at the perimeter rather than after somebody is already at the store door.
What we installed
- Long-range PTZ cameras on the yard and approach road, with the optical reach to identify a person or a vehicle at distance rather than merely detect movement.
- Bullet cameras on the store, the workshop and the fuel point — the three places where losses actually show up.
- Perimeter beams and motion sensors on radio transmission, suited to a site where running cable to every corner is impractical.
- Dome coverage in the office and dispatch area.
- Power conditioning and backup so recording survives the fluctuations a rural supply produces.
Designing for the site, not the catalogue
The value in a site like this is in placement. Two well-sited PTZ cameras with genuine optical reach do more work than eight cameras pointed at the ground near a building. We walked the sightlines with the farm manager before a single bracket went up, and we set detection zones to ignore livestock movement.
Handover and training
Consultation, installation and maintenance are included with every deployment. Staff were trained on patrol presets, playback and export, and the alarm arming schedule was set to match the working day rather than a default.
